Monaco? What’s So Great about It?

Monaco, six times the size of the Vatican and the world’s most densely populated independent country, is the second smallest independent state in the world (after the Vatican). A tax haven and tourist attraction for the rich, it is known mainly for gambling, Formula I racing, and the Rainier/Kelly wedding. We are scheduled to get a tour of the palace of the Rainier family where the legal ceremony took place. The palace has fabulous hilltop views of the bay where there will be yachts beyond belief. The catholic church wedding took place at Monaco’s St. Nicholas Cathedral. We are to stop there also. I look forward to these as I have often thought this must have been like a fairy tale in the day. She was a beauty so she sure looked the part of the Cinderella. We are also scheduled to ride the circuit of the Grand Prix which is throughout the streets of Monte Carlo, the capital. The Grand Casino will be limited to an outside viewing, as you must be in formal clothing to enter.  A souvenir passport stamp may be obtained at the national tourist office. This is located at 2a Boulevard des Moulins, which is north of the garden across from the Casino. Weekend hours are short and we will be there on Saturday so don’t know if we can work it out.  Our itinerary says we will see the old city but I just don’t know how we would have time but if so, it is a medieval village and very picturesque.
