Reims

Reims is pronounced Rimz like tire “rims”.  Reims Cathedral is a built in high Gothic style. This church was built on an earlier church, which was built on the site of the church where Clovis was baptized by Saint Remi in 496. Yes 496, only a little less than 500 years after Christ. Interesting enough, the original use of the land before that was a Roman bath. Clovis was considered the first king of the Franks which led to the conversion of the entire Frankish people to Catholic Christianity,  a momentous success for the Church and a seminal event in European history. This no doubt was almost as important to the spread of Christianity as the conversion of Constantine and Clovis asked especially for Saint Remi (Remigius),the Bishop to the Franks to baptize him. Reims has an important place in Christianity. During the First World War, the cathedral was commissioned as a hospital, and troops and arms were removed from its immediate vicinity.

It is spectacular in the pictures so no wonder it is called Notre Dame of Reims. Evening will no less than be an inspiring tribute.
